Πώς μετράμε... την ευτυχία;

Τη δημιουργία;

Την επιτυχία;

Πώς ένιωσες όταν ολοκλήρωσες το πρώτο σου έργο, ποιο είναι αυτό και σε ποια ηλικία συνέβη;

Αν η ζωή σου ήταν... μια σκηνή από ταινία, ποια θα ήταν αυτή;

...μια μουσική σύνθεση, τι θα ακούγαμε;
Α.Α.Π.: Το Requiem του Mozart.

...μια στιγμή στο χρόνο, πότε θα ζούσες;

Ποιο χρώμα έχει... η χαρά;

Η λαχτάρα;

Η φλόγα;

Χορεύεις;

Τραγουδάς;

A Writer’s Ordeal
by Pechlivanidis Alexander
I would be a fantastic writer if I didn’t hate writing so much. Sitting on a computer and writing about what’s on your mind. So utterly lifeless. You hear few writers say, writing is difficult and you have to motivate yourself, sit down and write. Every writer hates writing and rarely anybody admits it. Well, I motivate myself with ten cups of coffee and ten hours of Jazz. But the best ideas always come when you’re not expecting them. That's so stupid. I mean you could be sitting before your computer for three hours staring at the screen, gazing like an owl, mainly because you had five coffees, and still not be able to write a single word. Not a single fucking word.
You end watching comedians talk about feminism and sexism, Dawkins lecturing about science and you say to yourself, I should write about these stuff. But you don’t. And you hate yourself. You take a sip, listen to the drum part of the song, thinking about how low and deep Armstrong's voice is, and even though you like jazz, you never liked him and his wonderful world. Never. I mean it’s a boring song. I’m keeping myself from falling asleep every time I accidentally happen to hear it. Almost boring, as picking names for your characters. Oh, the names. The names are the worse. None of them fit. And, after about a week or so, you end up picking the one that first came on your mind, and you don’t know if it's because it’s good, or because you just don’t care anymore. I mean someone should help us. Make a machine that interprets thoughts, and types them, in a file on the computer. Then all you have to do is open the text and just edit. Or you could use a microphone. Just use it, even if people look at you as if you are a crazy lunatic for talking about the origin of life on the bus. Just you, talking, in a bus full of boring normal people. I say fuck them, they're as fucked up as you are. The only difference is that you can make money out of your misery. Uh-huh, definitely.
Writers are miserable people. I'm talking about real writers, not like those that write about glowing vampires and bondage sex stories. They’re like yellow journalists, talking about which celebrity fucked who. And people of course buy the books because that’s what fun is. Ignoring your own shit, and worrying about others. Well I can’t ignore mine, they’re constantly there, staring me in the face. The elephant in the room. Do you know what’s it like in our heads? It's like your brain is a glass filled with a cocktail of ideas, and you can't stop drinking from it, even if it fucks you up. You drink, it never stops drowning you with thoughts. It never empties, it gets refilled every time. I mean you can't stop drinking, because you like it so much, even if it transforms you into this weird philosopher that everybody is tired of listening to. You don’t care, you're addicted. Addicted to thinking, addicted to speaking. And the thing is that the only way to get rid of that flood in your head is to write. Otherwise the thoughts will haunt you, wherever you go. To the supermarket, for a drink, or to buy cigarettes. It's like you are a schizophrenic and the voices are telling you, not to kill yourself, but write. Write, write, write. You wanna shout “Go away,” but you can’t, cause you know, people would think you’re some kind of maniac, somebody would call the police, and they’d throw you in the nuthouse.
Well if that's not miserable I don't know what is. Talking to people that live in your head? You think about what they look like, what their ambitions, fears and hopes are. Sometimes you hope that you wouldn't think so much you know? Shut your brain down and care about things normal people care about. Kids, jobs, money. But then, you say no, being like that would probably be more boring than sitting down and writing. Oh god, I hate writing. But I love it as well. See? We're crazy. There's no other explanation. We must have some kind of undiagnosed personality disorder waiting to be discovered. Like obsessive, compulsive constant thinking. Who knows? I mean look at this, I wrote this, while hating writing and myself at the same time. I love it and hate it at the same time. There’s no logic. Who does that?
Thank God there's coffee and Jazz. I mean thank, Alpini and New Orleans. It’s probably the only things that make me write and keep my head from exploding.

A Traveler of Flavors
by Pechlivanidis Alexander
When you travel constantly, your whole life is concentrated into some luggage. All you are, is those things, your little world. It made me feel safe knowing that the things I carried with me, were “me”. I carried my “petite” little world while I wore my favorite grey coat and my red scarf wrapped around my neck. Μy black leather suitcase in my small hands. Wherever we went I could adapt, whether it was a five star hotel in Rome or some small hostel hiding itself among the alleys of Montmartre. The restaurants were the main attraction of our trips! Listen. Coq au vin with whole little caramelized onions and porcini mushrooms, Figs hugged by grilled bacon. Crème brule with Haitian Vanilla and crepe suzette with extra slices of blood orange. Even the names of those dishes sound like poetry. Every restaurant felt like a paradise of flavors and scents, waiting to be explored.
I used to carry a small notebook around me, like my mother did, writing about everything I tasted. The difference was that one of us wasn’t a famous food critique.
At nights when we returned at the hotel waiting for my father, she would take my notebook and read it. She would smile and say something like, “I loved the texture of the onions too.” Cooking was one of the few things we had in common. Maybe even the sole way for us to connect. Sometimes we stayed in a place for a long time, either because my dad had an important case to work on, or because my mother loved the feelings a Parisian apartment ignited. She would sit on the sofa, typing articles for her magazine. I sat by her while she worked. She’d think out loud, bite her fingernails and listen to Thelonious Monk.
One time she put some notes from my notebook in her articles. That day we had a piece of my favorite chocolate apple pie, the one with the caramelized apples.
“Why do you like food so much.” I asked.
“I don’t know. Cooking is like magic. When I taste a dish, I feel like I taste the culture of a whole civilization. Like I know their feelings, their history. Like a witch reading the tarot, seeing the past, the present and the future.” She always smiled when she talked about food.
“I don’t believe in witches mom.”
“But I do so whether you like it or not as long as you keep cooking, you will always be a magician.” She laughed and kissed me on my forehead!
